A Light Wooden Building for Swimming and Relaxation: Pool House for Villa J
Adjacent to the materially heavy main building Villa J (designed by Marge in 2010), the Pool House is a lighter wooden construction. The Pool House by the swimming pool houses a sauna, changing area, shower, toilet and lounge. It is a place for swimming and relaxation, where children can hang out with their friends on warm summer days or take late evening dips.
The location of the Pool House connects the plot and delimits the courtyard towards the incline, while creating privacy from the neighbours on the south side. The pool is distinguished by a concrete edge that protrudes like exposed bedrock. From the pool, the ground slopes down via paving to the grey wooden decking and further to the outdoor shower. The difference in height continues inside the Pool House and creates a higher ceiling in the relaxation area.
The wooden frame of the Pool House is clearly visible and the structure provides the façade with rhythm. The materials used in the villa recur here. The raw concrete appears in the pool and the floor, and the dark brick in the paved surface. The yellow linseed oil varnished oak doors and window frames and the copper roof and details
contrast with the grey wood and concrete.
